Stress can unfortunately be part of every facet of modern life. For people living with epilepsy, this can bring about extra challenges.
Stress is often pointed to as a major seizure trigger by many people living with the condition, and therefore, this brings the need to manage stress into focus. It is important that people living with epilepsy broaden their understanding of stress to develop strategies and techniques to help counteract the negative impact that stress can specifically have on their condition.
Equally, from our years of supporting parents and guardians of children with epilepsy, we know first hand the anxiety and worry which can come with supporting a child with epilepsy on their journey with the condition. Stress can result from a child having a seizure; treatment changes; hospital appointments; ensuring the child is included in activities while maintaining safety; explaining your child's epilepsy to others etc. These are just some examples of where a parent/guardian can experience stress as a result of supporting a loved one with the condition.
Stress can be all consuming, so in order to best support a child with epilepsy - and the wider family network - it is very important that parents/guardians are aware of how to effectively manage their stress levels.
This is why we offer Stress Management workshops for both Adults with epilepsy and Parents/Guardians of Children with Epilepsy.
Facilitated by our Community Resource Officers, the session will provide information on how you can self-manage your stress and share information on the tools needed for the effective management of the daily stressors that are part of modern day living.

Remember..
With this workshop, it is important that there has been previous contact with your local Community Resource Officer. It is important that there has been previous engagement in order for us to best facilitate the experience for all attending the support group. At particular points in your journey with epilepsy, individual direct support from our team may be more appropriate rather than a group setting. If you would like to contact your local Community Resource Officer, you can find their details by visiting the ‘Our Local Service’ page on our website.
I really found the workshop very helpful and have taken a lot of pointers to help myself, and number one, not to be so hard on myself.
