Since 2009, Epilepsy Ireland has invested over €1.5million in a varied range of high-quality epilepsy research projects. Since we first directly invested in research projects, the importance of our role in encouraging epilepsy research has grown significantly.

Our current 5-year Strategic Plan highlights investment in epilepsy research as a key strategic aim as we continue our work towards a society where no person's life is limited by epilepsy (the full Strategic Plan (2022-2026) can be found by visiting the 'Publications' section of our website.

We contribute to the epilepsy research community in Ireland in several ways:

  • By investing in epilepsy research
To date, the majority of our research projects have been supported through co-funding schemes like the HRCI/ HRB Joint Funding Scheme, the HRB Applied Partnership Awards and the Research Ireland Enterprise Partnership schemes. Active calls will be advertised in the ‘Apply for Funding’ page in this section of our website. You can also see the projects we have previously funded  by visiting the ‘Projects Funded’ page.

  • Assisting Researchers & Research Institutions
We also assist researchers with their epilepsy-focused research projects in non-financial ways. For example, we can disseminate research volunteer requests, contribute directly with our understanding of an issue or support the participation of people with epilepsy within projects (PPI). We also participate as collaborators or partners on research projects. Visit the ‘Research Requests’ page in this section for further details.

Our investments in epilepsy research would not be possible without the support of our dedicated volunteers and supporters. If you would like to make a vital donation to help continue our support of Irish epilepsy research, you can do so by clicking the button below.
