Our annual family fun day is a special event which brings together young people and children living with epilepsy and their families for a special day out where they can meet others living with epilepsy and have some fun while doing it!
In recent years, the event has taken place in Dublin Zoo and Fota Irish Wildlife Park in Cork, providing an extra layer of excitement for children with epilepsy and their families. The event also allows some of the regular attendees of our Young Epilepsy Programme to meet in-person and take part in special themed events as part of the day. Members of Epilepsy Ireland’s team from across the country also attend the day, joining in on the fun of the day!
Since we first began our annual family fun day, demand for tickets to attend has always outweighed availability. Therefore, in recent years, details of the event have been exclusively shared with families/young people who have engaged with our services (either via their local Community Resource Officer or via the Young Epilepsy Programme) in the 12 months prior to the event being organised. Tickets are offered on a first come first served basis, and capacity for this event is often reached following this initial contact with families who have recently engaged with our services – with waiting lists employed for those who are unable to secure a ticket.
If capacity is not reached in the initial call-out, it is then circulated to members and again if we haven’t reached capacity only then will it be advertised wider on the events sections of our website or via our social media channels or monthly email update.
While this process inevitably can lead to disappointment for some, it is the fairest process we can employ for this extremely popular event with the resources available to us.
