The role of Epilepsy Ireland Ambassador was approved by our board in December 2024. The role of Ambassador is a voluntary, honorary role.
The objective of our ambassadors is to bring visibility and positive public attention to epilepsy and the work of Epilepsy Ireland. Ambassadors will have a positive public profile and/or be acknowledged as leaders in their respective field, which may include those in sport, entertainment, arts, business, social or traditional media.
Ambassadors will be instrumental in reaching new audiences to highlight how Epilepsy Ireland supports individuals and families living with the condition and other core aspects of our work including advocating for positive change, funding epilepsy research, and improving public knowledge of the condition. Ambassadors can also inspire new fundraising activities that will secure and develop the impact of the charity into the future.
Epilepsy is an extremely individual condition and affects individuals and families differently. Through our ambassadors who may have a lived or family experience of epilepsy, we aim to highlight that epilepsy is a common condition that affects people in all walks of life. We want to show that epilepsy does not have to prevent a person from achieving their goals in life. We also want to educate the public about what it is like to live with epilepsy and improve knowledge of important topics such as seizure first aid.
While a personal connection to epilepsy is welcomed for our potential ambassadors, it is not a prerequisite to take on the role. Educating the public about epilepsy is one of our most important and goals and ambassadors who do not have a personal connection to epilepsy can be representative of this key stakeholder group and use their own journey on learning about the condition to help raise awareness.
We look forward to working with our ambassadors to help continue our journey towards a society where no person’s life is limited by epilepsy.
