This week is National Epilepsy Week and is an important week for Epilepsy Ireland to raise awareness of epilepsy and share the realties of life with the condition.

Across the week on our website and social media channels, we will be sharing stories from people living with epilepsy and their key messages about the condition to the wider public, and the epilepsy community.  You can read some of the stories we have received as part of the week below:

We would like to thank everyone who has shared their story with us this year and we look forward to sharing these stories across the week. If you have been inspired by any of the stories shared and would like to share your experience of life with epilepsy in the future, please get in touch with our Communications Officer, Fiona Keeley, by emailing fkeeley@epilepsy.ie.

We are also appealing to the wider public this week to not only learn more about epilepsy but also learn how to correctly respond to a seizure using our key words of TIME, SAFE, STAY. These three key words are potentially a lifesaving intervention and we would encourage everyone to please take a moment to visit the ‘Seizure First Aid’ section to learn more about these vitally important key words, download our detailed seizure first aid posters - and to share this page of our website this National Epilepsy Week with your colleagues, friends, teammates and within any WhatsApp groups you may be a member of. To help them remember, you can also share our Time, Safe, Stay song below, which we released earlier this year for International Epilepsy Day. You can download the song on Spotify via the button below, or listen on Youtube:

With this important week underway, we would also like to invite you to become a member of Epilepsy Ireland and join us on our journey towards a society where no person’s life is limited by epilepsy. It is very important that we have a strong and vibrant membership base to give voice and weight to our work across Ireland. The more members we have, the stronger our collective voice becomes as advocates for the needs of people with epilepsy. Becoming a member also gives you a say in shaping the services and support we provide, from advocacy and awareness campaigns to developing new services and responding to changing needs. Join us on our journey for just €10 a year by clicking the button below:

Finally, a reminder that if you need support or information on your or a loved one’s journey with epilepsy, we are here for you. Do not hesitate to contact your local Community Resource Office – you can find their details by visiting the ‘Our Local Services’ section of our website.
