Teen Time 8.5.24

Girl looking at laptop
08 May 2024

We know how the teenage years can be one of the most stressful periods for a person living with epilepsy - and we know its a time when many teenagers do not want to think or speak about epilepsy.

However, from our years of serving the epilepsy community, we’ve heard from now-adults about how they never knew anyone with epilepsy growing up and many feel that they would've benefited in later years from being more comfortable about discussing their epilepsy from an earlier age with those around them. This is why we established 'Teen Time'.

This online event aims at bringing young people with epilepsy from across Ireland together in a safe environment where they can either discuss their own personal journey with epilepsy with others who know what they’re going through - or to just have a general catch-up with those that they have met through Teen Time.

Many of the adults who have approached our service, note to us how an event like this would've been of benefit to them as they navigated their teenage years and this is another reason why we offer this event.

If you're a teenager with epilepsy and would be interested in joining for our Teen Time events throughout the year, you can see how to register below.

We look forward to welcoming you to Teen Time and introducing you to the many other teens who are living with epilepsy across the country.

You can also email Agnieszka or Carina if you have any general questions about the event. Note that we will ask for parental/guardian consent to join Teen Time. Depending on numbers attending, separate breakout rooms will be set up for younger/older teens.

Please note..

If you need any information or support regarding epilepsy, please do not hesitate to get in touch with your local Community Resource Officer. You can find their details by visiting the 'Our Local Services' section of our website.

A note for parents/guardians.

If you are a parent or guardian of a teenager with epilepsy, and think your teen would benefit from this event, we’d encourage you to share the link with them and get them to express their interest with Agnieszka or Carina directly. From events we’ve held previously for teens, it is not a good start when the parent registers their teen without their knowledge. In addition, we will be extremely strict with parents or guardians sitting in on or attending these meetings. Having parents/guardians present will not enhance the environment we are trying to build. We will also be insisting cameras are on for the safety of everyone participating. Should you have any questions about this event, please call Agnieszka or Carina.

This event has been made possible thanks to the RTÉ Toy Show Appeal and the Community Foundation of Ireland.
