Special Information Session on Transitioning to Adult Epilepsy Services 30.10.25

Young adults in a hospital waiting room
30 Oct 2025

The transition from paediatric to adult health services can be a challenging time, as young people living with epilepsy and their parents/guardians may not know what to expect during the process.

During this period, a young person may be beginning to take a more active role in the self-management of their epilepsy, which can present challenges for some. Equally, for parents/guardians, this process can be difficult to navigate in caring for their loved one while supporting their increased independence in managing their own condition.

To explain this process and to address some of the concerns that families may have, we have arranged this special information session focusing on the transition to adult epilepsy services for young people aged 14+ and their parents / guardians.

The event will be co-facilitated by Agnieszka, EI Youth Resource Officer, and Annette Breen, Epilepsy ANP, Tallaght University Hospital.

During the event, the following topics will be covered:

  • How to prepare for your first hospital visit in an adult clinic
  • What are the differences you can expect within adult health services
  • How to manage key aspects of epilepsy such as lifestyle and triggers
  • Supports available in the community
  • General support and information around epilepsy

Alongside the topics above, there will also be an opportunity for questions and answers  well as the opportunity to meeting other at a similar stage of their respective journeys with the condition.

If you have any questions about this event, please contact Agnieszka at apolak@epilepsy.ie. Otherwise, see below for further details on this event and how to register.
