We have published our ‘Use of funds’ statement for 2022. This statement outlines to our members, service users, volunteers, supporters, donors, and the public how we raise and use our income at Epilepsy Ireland.

The statement is based on our audited accounts for 2022.

Total income was €1,530,040 while total expenditure was €1,638,133– meaning a deficit of €108,093 was recorded. Of every euro donated to Epilepsy Ireland, 87c was spent on direct charitable objectives – while 13c was spent on raising funds.

While total fundraising was down 7% compared to 2021, when adjusted for a significant one-off legacy donation of €100,000 in 2021, fundraising income showed a 22% increase in 2022 as the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic began to lessen. However, fundraising income remains substantially lower than pre-Covid – for example, €594,762 was raised in 2019. We would like to thank everyone who contributed to work of Epilepsy Ireland in 2022 and we hope we can continue to have your support as we look to the future.

Some of 2022’s highlights for our organisation included hosting over 120 events during the year; responding to almost 20,000 support contacts; launching new services such as mindfulness sessions; providing epilepsy training to over 2,500 healthcare and education professionals; funding five new epilepsy research projects; running one of our most creative and successful public awareness campaigns for #EpilepsyDay; and making considerable progress on several important advocacy issues.

Financially, it was a difficult year, with a not unexpected but significant deficit recorded in order to achieve these results.  As we continue this work, we would appeal for your support for our work towards a society where no person’s life is limited by epilepsy.
