Epilepsy Ireland were pleased to meet with Deputy Heather Humphreys, Minister for Social Protection yesterday regarding our proposals around access to Free Travel for people with epilepsy.

In what was a positive meeting, we discussed the impact of driving restrictions on people with active seizures and the rationale behind our proposals with the Minister and her officials. It was clear that Minister has a strong understanding of the issue and along with her team, have given our proposals significant consideration.

We have now opened a direct line of communication with the Department’s officials and a commitment was given to further investigate the issue and to meet again at a later date.

We look forward to working with the Department and the Minister to hopefully resolve this longstanding issue affecting people with epilepsy and their families. We will provide further updates as and when they become available.
