We are delighted to announce that we have launched a new membership structure, which we hope will encourage more people with epilepsy, their family members and the wider community to join us on our journey towards a society where no person’s life is limited by epilepsy.

As a member-based organisation, we wanted to make it easier for everyone in the epilepsy community to join and be part of our work. To do this, we spoke with our members, volunteers and people who use our services to understand what matters most to them. We also looked at how other organisations structure their membership. All this feedback helped us shape a simpler, more streamlined membership for 2026 and beyond, replacing the previous multi-year membership options which came with different fees and features.

Membership at a glance:

  • A single, flat €10 annual fee
  • Members can now opt for this to be auto-renewed annually when signing up
  • When becoming a member, people can now select whether they are:
    • A Person with epilepsy
    • A Parent/ Family member of a person with epilepsy
    • Healthcare professional
    • Supporter
  • By becoming a member, each member can opt in to receive our monthly email update and will also receive our quarterly newsletter, Epilepsy News.

It is important to note that being a member is not a requirement to access our support and information services, or the various events we offer to people with epilepsy and their families across Ireland. These remain free of charge. However, we hope that the new streamlined approach will encourage all those with an interest in epilepsy to become more closely involved in our work and community.

Commenting on the launch of the new membership model, Epilepsy Ireland CEO Peter Murphy, said:

“It is very important that we have a strong and vibrant membership base to give voice and weight to our work across Ireland. The more members we have, the stronger our collective voice becomes as advocates for the needs of people with epilepsy.

“Membership also gives you a say in shaping the services and support we provide, from advocacy and awareness campaigns to developing new services and responding to changing needs.

“Becoming a member means you will be staying connected, informed, and part of a community that is shaping the future of epilepsy care in Ireland. Whether you live with epilepsy, care for someone who does, or simply want to support our work, membership is a way to be involved, stay updated, and make an impact.

“Launching this new membership in 2026 is especially fitting as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Epilepsy Ireland. Over the past 60 years, our members have been instrumental in everything we’ve achieved, and as we look ahead, we want to grow and strengthen that partnership. We warmly invite everyone to join us on this journey and become part of our community today!”
