A research team at University College Cork (UCC) is inviting adults living with epilepsy to take part in an online study exploring how clinical factors and social support relate to different aspects of psychological wellbeing.
This project is being led by Lia Hipwell, a final year psychology researcher at UCC who also lives with epilepsy and is a Epilepsy Ireland media volunteer.
Lia has previously shared her personal journey with epilepsy as part of our International Epilepsy Day campaign in 2024 - which you can read by visiting the 'Life With Epilepsy' section on our website.
Inspired by her lived experience, Lia’s research aims to better understand how seizure patterns and social support may influence key areas of wellbeing such as stress, sleep, emotional balance, self-efficacy, and quality of life. The study hopes to identify relationships that can help researchers and healthcare providers better understand how to improve psychological wellbeing for people living with epilepsy.
Lia is seeking feedback from adults with epilepsy living with epilepsy in Ireland. To take part, participants will complete a short online survey that takes approximately 10 minutes. The survey includes questions about your epilepsy, your experience of social support, and about your wellbeing.
All responses are anonymous, and you may withdraw at any point before submitting your answers. Your contribution can help highlight how different factors affect every day wellbeing for people with epilepsy. The results may inform future support services, awareness campaigns, and clinical care approaches.
If you would like to help Lia with this important research, you can do so by taking the survey on the UCC website via the button below:
