Epilepsy Ireland have been a proud member of the Infantile Spasms Awareness Network since 2021 - a group of organisations across the globe committed to raising awareness of Infantile Spasms.
In Ireland, we lead the activities for the annual Infantile Spasms Awareness Week - which aims to raise awareness of this rare but extremely serious type of epilepsy amongst new and expectant parents.
Because of how seizures in Infantile Spasms can present, they can often be overlooked and misdiagnosed - which can potentially cause permanent damage to a child's developing brain.
Infantile Spasms Awareness Week is an an incredibly important week to raise awareness of this and how Infantile Spasms can present - and to educate new and expectant parents on how to STOP them. Throughout the week, we will be sharing information about Infantile Spasms - as well as sharing the experiences of families who may have received a diagnosis.
If you our your loved one has experienced a diagnosis of Infantile Spasms and would like to share your story, please get in touch with our Communications Officer, Fiona Keeley by emailing fkeeley@epilepsy.ie.
We would encourage everyone to please learn more about Infantile Spasms now and during the week - and please share our information resource with any new or expectant parents you may know. You can find out more by visiting our 'Infantile Spasms' page on our website.
