Brainwave is indebted to the organisers and participants in the 2009 Rubberman Challenge, which raised €6,000 to support our work.

The Rubber Man challenge is a "triathlon with a difference" that takes place annually in Bunclody, Co. Wexford. Unlike the traditional Iron-Man triathlon, which consists of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle and a then a full marathon, the Rubberman version is a more user-friendly 10-mile cycle, 2 mile run followed by a round of golf.

Founded by Tony Redmond and James Bodels, the event has raised an amazing €171,000 for charity over the years and in 2009, Brainwave was delighted to be one of the two nominated recipients along with the Cystic Fibrosis Association of Ireland.

The event itself was held on August 15th and was won by Barry Byrne. Barry now carries the grand title of Irish (and maybe even World?) Rubberman Champion!

In the photo below, a cheque for €6,000 is presented to Brainwave's Glenna Gallagher by James Bodels, Fiona Bodels & Tony Redmond.
