A massive thank you to all of the organisers, cyclists and supporters involved in the inaugural Tour De Gaggs cycle held this year in support of Brainwave - The Irish Epilepsy Association.

An amazing €20,617 was raised by the 30-strong peloton and by a large team of volunteers and supporters through completing the gruelling 300km cycle from Cork to Roscommon in May.

The cycle was held in memory of Alan Gallagher, who passed away as a result of his epilepsy in January 2009. Alan, originally from Roscommon, attended college at UCC where the cycle began. The peloton also passed through Limerick where Alan had lived for a while and Galway, where he worked as a photographer with the Galway Independent in the months before his death. Alan was himself a keen cyclist, and previously cycled from Roscommon to Cork some years ago.

Alan's family and friends presented the cheque (below) to Brainwave at an event in Cork in November.

Brainwave would like to thank all the dedicated participants, organisers, support crew and of course the Gallagher family for all their work this year and everyone who helped make the event such a success. Our thanks in particular to Colm Burke, Niall Harte and all the organising committee for doing a great job.

We are delighted to hear that plans are already underway to hold the cycle again in 2011.
