Oct 2013 | Beaumont Hospital Living Optimally with Epilepsy Self-Management Programme

Start date: October 2013

Recently, Beaumont Hospital successfully trialled a pilot programme for people living with epilepsy, which is designed to enhance self-management. A second group is due to start in October 2013.

The Living Optimally with Epilepsy Self-Management Programme is a group programme, designed to complement the care provided by health-care teams and allow participants to learn from the experiences of others with epilepsy. The programme also aims to foster a lasting social and supportive connection between group participants and encourages learning through group discussion. The aim is for group members to learn how to become active self-managers of their own epilepsy.

The programme is delivered over a six-week period in weekly two and a half hour sessions. Each programme is usually attended by 10 to 12 male and female participants. The cost of the programme is €30, which includes the cost of a detailed manual and refreshments for the six weeks.

People with epilepsy are now invited to register their interest in taking part in the group starting in October.

The group will meet Tuesday evenings from 6:00 pm to 8:30 pm in the Seminar Room, Hepatology Department, Lower Ground Floor, Beaumont Hospital.
