It is an important part of being seizure-aware that you know what to do if you see someone having a seizure.

The most important thing to know is that you cannot stop any kind of seizure. You must let it run its course which in most cases will only be from a few seconds to a few minutes.

Some seizure types, such as partial seizures or absence seizures, both explained in the Seizures section don't require any specific first-aid measures apart from:

  • Allow the seizure to run its course
  • Remain with the person
  • Protect them from real or potential danger
  • When recovery is complete, reassure them and explain what has happened

The two types of seizure that may require your intervention are:

Tonic-Clonic Seizures (aka Major, Convulsive or Grand-Mal)

Complex Partial seizures
