Almost 30 people turned out in Cork on April 7th for a meeting called by Brainwave to appeal for volunteers in Cork to assist with our fundraising efforts.

Held to coincide with the Lord Mayor's Volunteer Week in Cork, the Deputy Lord Mayor, Cllr Laura McGonigle attended to convey her best wishes to our efforts. Cllr McGonigle said that Brainwave was fortunate to have a group of people who were willing to give their time so generously, particularly in these times of financial strain and recession. She said that volunteer support is needed now more than ever. She also paid tribute to the work of Bernard Hughes who last year celebrated 25 years as a volunteer with Brainwave, adding that she hoped Bernard's example might inspire others to get involved.

Brainwave would like to thank all our supporters that gave up their time to attend the meeting and hear about the need for a greater emphasis on fundraising in 2010 and beyond.

Plenty of people volunteered their time on the night for activities like Rose Week, flag days and church gate collections and there were many ideas and offers of help to organise and participate in fundraising events to support Brainwave.

We are very grateful for all the support received on the night. For more information, please contact Bernard Hughes at 021 4274774 or Peter Murphy at 01 4557500.

Brainwave was also delighted to participate in the Lord Mayor's Volunteer fair. In the photo at the end, Community Resource Officer Niamh Jones is pictured at Brainwave's stand with Lord Mayor Cllr. Dara Murphy.
