Last November in New York, Joey and some of his work mates decided that it would be a great idea for him to grow a beard with a view to raising funds for a worthy charity.

Joey agreed that, if they raised $10,000 before March 17th (St. Patrick's Day) he would grow a beard through to his birthday on November 19th 2015. $4,700 was pledged in New York thanks to generous support from his Markel colleagues ... so the beard growing commenced.

Joey decided to support Epilepsy Ireland's research scheme to support his godson, Ross O'Dea. Three years ago, at the age of 10, Ross had his first seizures and coped excellently during a difficult time.

Joey believes that more research into the right medications for patients is needed to help children like Ross find medication that works quicker, reduces the anxiety and uncertainty surrounding seizure frequency and improves their quality of life.

A sincere thanks to 'The Bearded Irishman' Joey O'Dea for raising an amazing €20k which will go towards our research scheme.
