Michael Lewis is about to set off on a sailing adventure that will last 10 months, cover 35,000 miles and cross the entire planet. And he's hoping to raise funds for Brainwave in the process.

Micheal, an amateur sailor, is taking part in the Clipper 09-10 Round The World Yacht Race which begins in Hull on September 13th and ends in the same port in July 2010.

Each of the 10 participating yachts are sponsored by an international city and Michael, who started training in April for the challenge will sail on the Cork yacht. At 68', the vessels are designed more for speed than comfort.

"The Clipper Race is the only Round the World yacht race set up for non-professional sailors like me. To say I'm excited about it would be something of an understatement", says Michael who is taking a career break to take part.

"I feel incredibly privileged to have this opportunity, and I really intend to make the most of it. I am particularly lucky, as while I suffer from Epilepsy, it is controlled well enough that I can do this. I'm hoping to be able to bring some attention to the organisations that help with research into epilepsy, and who support people whose daily lives are really affected by this condition".
