Thank You, 2009
Jenny's half-marathon in support of Brainwave
Congratulations and a big thank you to Jenny Gallagher and Karen Hegarty who recently completed the Dingle half-marathon in support of Brainwave raising over €900. In June, Jenny ran in her first race, the Women's Mini Marathon and also helped raise funds through that event.
They now plan to realise a long held ambition by doing a full marathon in 2010.
Jenny took on the challenges in memory of a family member who recently passed away. She says "In January of this year my brother-in-law Alan, who was only 29 years old, died from epilepsy. Six months before he died he had fulfilled his life-long dream of becoming a professional photographer. His sudden death was shocking and left a void in my life. I began to think about my own mortality and looked at my life and the things that I had done or more importantly hadn't done. I felt that I owed it to Alan to achieve more and make each day more worthwhile. I decided to start working towards my goal of running a marathon and while doing so raise money and awareness for Brainwave, The Irish Epilepsy Association".
The photo below shows Jenny and Karen crossing the finish line, barely out of breath!
